We’re here to support you in cases of discrimination

Do you experience antisemitism, racism, or other forms of discrimination? We support you – confidentially, impartially, and free of charge. We pay particular attention to advising people who are affected by antisemitism and work throughout North Rhine-Westphalia. In the Düsseldorf area, we advise in all cases of discrimination, i.e., if you have been disadvantaged, harassed, or devalued because of racist attributions.

Whether at school, at work, in your free time or in your own living environment: Unfortunately, discrimination and antisemitism exist in all areas of life. We advise affected individuals, their relatives as well as witnesses and communities – even for incidents below the criminal liability limit. In our consultation, we develop action strategies together to deal with the situation and accompany you through the solution process.

About us

SABRA stands for “Service Center for Anti-Discrimination. Counselling Agency for victims of racist and antisemitic incidents” (Servicestelle für Antidiskriminierungsarbeit, Beratung bei Rassismus und Antisemitismus). It is run by the Jewish Congregation of Düsseldorf and is funded by the State Ministry for Children, Youth, Family, Equality, Refugees and Integration. The name SABRA is both an acronym and the Hebrew term for prickly pear, which is also used to refer to Jewish people born in Israel.

SABRA’s work includes in particular individual counseling for those affected by antisemitism (NRW-wide) and racism (City of Düsseldorf), prevention and educational work against antisemitism as well as networking and committee work at municipal, state and federal level. MALMAD, a virtual method kit against antisemitism including the educational short movie project “8×2 Jewish Perspectives” and the mobile escape room „Fixing the Boat – Finding Identity“ are an important part of their educational work with a wide range of offers and projects.

SABRA’s work is also supported by the secondment of three teachers as part of the cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Schools and Education of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Jewish Congregation of Düsseldorf. They consult in cases of discrimination at school, as well as the ministry and teachers that want to engage against antisemitism and offer a range of workshops.

In 2020, SABRA published the cooperative study „Antisemitism in NRW – Perceptions and Experiences of Jewish People“, which became the basis for the establishment of the Research and Information Center on Antisemitism in North Rhine-Westphalia (RIAS NRW). We are a multi-professional team. Ranging from art and cultural education to political science, philosophy and history, our interdisciplinary collaboration enables us to constantly invent new approaches to working against antisemitism.
